What is a VasoScan™ scan?

A VasoScan™ is an FDA cleared, simple, non-invasive device which provides an accurate, reproducible assessment of the Autonomic Nervous System, vascular elasticity and stiffness, as well as the coronary health of “at-risk” patients. VasoScan™ provides information on arterial wall stiffness and determines the biological age of arteries in five minutes, utilizing a finger probe to observe the changes in pressure, blood flow, and velocity throughout the pulse wave.

What is an arterial pulse wave?

VasoScan™ utilizes an infrared finger sensor, similar to pulse oximetry technology, to access, produce and display the arterial pulse waves. The pulse wave is a physiological phenomenon, observable and measurable in the arterial system during blood circulation. During one heart systole a certain blood volume is expelled. This propagates through the arteries due to the reciprocal transformation between kinetic energy of a segment of the expelled blood volume and the potential energy of a stretched segment of the resilient vascular wall. We can observe the changes in pressure, blood flow, velocity and profile throughout the whole pulse wave. It is used for classification of the artery elasticity. The digitized pulse wave can then be used for various algorithms, including Heart Rate Variability analysis, useful for Autonomic Nervous System breakdown and analysis.

Vasoscan™, LLC was established in response to the alarming statistics of cardiac health of America. In the United States, total cardiovascular disease mortality ranks as the leading cause of death, and accounts for more than 40% of all deaths.

Looking at specific age groups, cardiovascular disease is:

  • No. 1 for age 65 and older
  • No. 2 for ages 0-14 and 25-64
  • No. 3 for ages 15-24

VasoScan™ offers many advantages including:

  • Early detection of arterial wall elasticity and determination of biological arterial age in less than 5 minutes.
  • Easy to use, non-operator dependent Software.
  • Monitors effectiveness of therapeutic intervention.
  • Monitors arterial wall response to lifestyle changes / reduction of cardiovascular risk factors.
  • Non-invasive, uses a LED/Photodiode finger probe sensor.
  • FDA Cleared.
  • Lightweight and Portable (1.5 lbs)
  • User friendly and delivers instant report.
  • Affordable.
  • Covered by Insurance.
  • New Revenue Source for Primary Care Physicians.

A VasoScan™ is non-invasive that uses a small LED clip and sensor placed on the finger. The test requires three minutes and is easily performed in the 11-minute window when a technician takes patients' vital signs while the patient waits for the doctor.

If a positive reading occurs while using VasoScan for early detection of cardiovascular disease, a follow up visit would be scheduled for an advanced imaging procedure to pinpoint the problem. Your doctor could then order the best and most cost-effective treatment available to you. By detecting a cardiovascular problem early, VasoScan has the potential to save millions of lives as well as billions of dollars.

Your patient's exam will be interpreted by a board certified radiologist, who dictates a report. You will then receive your results within 48 to 72 hours.
